Tariff Statement – February 12th, 2025

Last Update: February 12, 2025

Dear Customer,

Emerald Technologies is actively monitoring the evolving tariff situation. As detailed in this White House Fact Sheet, published on February 1, 2025, an additional 10% tariff will be imposed upon all goods originating from China (effective February 4, 2025).  This tariff will be added on top of any other tariffs on goods of Chinese origin, such as added on top of the Section 301 tariffs.

There is no list of HTS codes to share as the tariff is applied to all Chinese origin goods.  The tariff is not being imposed through the Section 301 process, but rather under the authority of the International Emergency Economics Powers Act (IEEPA)

Further information is expected to come out soon via a Federal Register notice.  As of now, the best we can speculate is that it will be imposed based on the country of origin methodology that is currently utilized for Section 301 and other special tariffs.

The additional tariffs incurred by Emerald Technologies will be passed through to customers. We will notify you of any cost increases using your established process or work with you to set one up if needed.

We remain committed to monitoring this evolving situation and will provide updates as new information becomes available. Emerald is dedicated to helping you navigate these challenges and implement strategies that ensure your supply chain remains resilient and cost-efficient.

Strategies to consider for tariff mitigation:

  •  Identify Country of Origin for your components, so you may consider the path of alternative sourcing.
  •  We recommend our customers consider our Penang, Malaysia facility, which is currently servicing customers who have selected Malaysia over China. Emerald Technologies, Penang is fully operational with available capacity.

Thank you for your continued partnership. Our goal is to offer support as you determine the right decisions for your business. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your Program Manager with any questions or to discuss your specific needs.
