Highlights from Manufacturing Day – January 15, 2025
1. Coffee, Networking, and Plant Tour
The day began with a warm meet-and-greet over coffee and refreshments, followed by a guided tour of the Saline plant. This gave attendees a firsthand look at the facility’s advanced operations and a deeper appreciation for Emerald’s commitment to quality and precision.
2. Cogiscan Presentation: Traceability and Automation
A standout session featured Cogiscan, Emerald’s Manufacturing Execution System (MES) provider. Attendees learned how Cogiscan enables real-time material tracking and traceability by assigning unique IDs to components and integrating automated dashboards, inventory towers, and defect monitoring. This system ensures unmatched precision and efficiency on the production floor.
3. EVS International: Sustainability in Action
EVS International presented their wave solder dross recovery machine, which leverages innovative technology to convert solder dross into reusable solder bars. This advancement reduces material waste, improves resource utilization, and enhances the efficiency of wave solder operations.
4. Juki’s Inventory Tower Technology
Juki showcased their automated inventory towers, which work seamlessly with Cogiscan’s “Low Level Warning” system to minimize downtime by replenishing reels as needed. These towers exemplify efficiency in material handling.
5. Omron Inspection Technology
Omron’s inspection solutions demonstrated how Saline has reduced defects and false calls by integrating AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) and SPI (Solder Paste Inspection) machines. The implementation of pre-reflow AOI has significantly improved quality and reduced labor needs, enhancing productivity across SMT lines.
6. Schunk and Quasi Robotics Presentations
Schunk’s automated depaneling router and Quasi Robotics’ Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) highlighted the role of automation in minimizing costs and improving workflow. These technologies reduce manual tasks, streamline processes, and enhance overall efficiency.
